SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed his wish to sign one or two players before the transfer window closes later this month. His aim is to bolster his squad in an effort to strike balance in the team that has a lot of young talent.
The Tshwane side are short of experienced players. They lost the duo of Ronwen Williams and Sipho Mbule to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
Despite making some signings like Thulani Hlatshwayo, Thabang Sibanyoni and Grant Margeman, the team has been fielding many youngsters this season in their matches. One youngster who has impressed so far is Thapelo Maseko. After five appearances, he has found the back of the net twice.
Against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarter-final tie a week ago, Hunt handed three youngsters their PSL debuts due to a shortage of players.
According to Hunt, the team is not balanced. He previously pinpointed the defence and midfield as the areas that need some additions before the transfer window shuts.
“We don’t have players. We struggling with numbers. They’ve done great. We walk every line as a battle way. Hopefully, we can try to get one or two bodies in before the window closes,” said Hunt.
“We got to be patient with them [youngsters], sometimes as I say results can suffer because we haven’t bought anybody. In the long run, we will benefit.”
Due to a lack of experienced players, results have not been coming for SuperSport. The team seem to lack consistency. After six DStv Premiership matches, they have won two, drew two and suffered two defeats. They are 10th on the log standings with eight points.
Gavin Hunt is left with two weeks to make some additions to his squad. The PSL announced the deadline day to be on the 22nd of September.
