Gavin Hunt’s major concern about CAF interclub competition

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed the major concern his team will face when they play football in CAF interclub competition next season.

SuperSport will either participate in the CAF Champions League or in the CAF Confederation Cup depending on where they finish in the DStv Premiership log table.

Currently, Matsatsantsa are third on the log, level with second-placed Orlando Pirates with 51 points respectively, with only one match left to wrap up the campaign.

GAVIN HUNT’S CONCERN

According to Gavin Hunt, his major problem is that he won’t have an experienced squad that will be able to compete in continental football.

The Tshwane outfit have financial restrictions as they operate on a strict and tight budget. This season they had to get free agents and players on loan to have a proper balanced team.

They brought in players like Thulani Hlatshwayo, Grant Margeman, Ricardo Goss and Zakhele Lepasa.

“The squad won’t be big enough [for CAF], no chance,” said Hunt.

“There are a lot of decisions being made wherever we finish [in the DStv Premiership] around the team. Keeping players and try getting one or two.

“Africa it’s about having certain players where you can rotate a little bit. It’s not good having a lot of players because you can’t rotate certain positions.

“For me, in Africa you need more centre-backs, more central midfielders and you need more strikers because of the demands and variation of games.

Hunt further stated that his players are ready to play in Africa next season. Be it in Champions League or Confederation Cup.

When asked if there is hunger and desire from the players, Hunt replied, “Oh yes.

“But you got to be careful. You got to look after your product here which is home first, try to win domestically first,” he added.
