Gallants Break Silence On ‘Hostage’ Drama In Libya

Marumo Gallants have made an official statement on their two employees who are still detained in Libya, two weeks after their game against Al Akdhar in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Having won their Group ahead of Algerian giants USM Alger and heading to the quarter-finals, there should be a sense of jubilation surrounding the club, however, the reality is that there’s a real sense of unprofessionalism in management and a regelation fight in the DStv Premiership.

Last week, FARPost reported that their Media Officer and another member of the technical team were being held at the hotel they stayed at in Libya over unpaid bills as the owner of the establishment helped them honour the fixture after being stuck in transit in Turkey.

Gallants have now stated they are working on resolving the issue: Marumo Gallants F.C. management is in communication with relevant officials to resolve the situation in Libya involving two of the club’s key employees.

“Following the CAF Confederation Cup match against Libya’s Al Akhdar on 19 March 2023, the PSL team’s two staff members (Media Liaison Rufus Matsena and team physiotherapist Tebogo Amos Dhlomo) were detained at a Libyan hotel over a financial dispute.

“Marumo Gallants management are in contact with the two employees, who have confirmed that they are safe and waiting for the matter to be settled.

“Once the issue has been resolved, the club will address questions and concerns at a media briefing – platform and details to be announced. There are no further comments from Marumo Gallants F.C. at this point.”

Gallants will continue their gruelling schedule this week when they face Royal AM on Wednesday at the Free State Stadium before travelling to FNB Stadium to take on Kaizer Chiefs.
