Four PSL Clubs Keeping An Eye On Ex-Arrows Coach

Relieved Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has already attracted interest from a few clubs after Abafana Bes’Thende officially confirmed that has tendered his resignation on Monday.

Vilakazi, who joined Arrows as a player ahead of the 2006/07 season, confirmed his departure at Arrows on Sunday to this publication, leaving the club despite lying second in the DStv Premiership table where he was working as the co-coach with Mabhuti Khenyeza.

While Vilakazi informed this publication that he is interested in equipping himself, it appears he won’t be without a club for long as a few teams such as Richards Bay, Cape Town Spurs, Chippa United and Polokwane City are keeping an eye on him, provided that results do not improve on their side.

All these clubs have not had the best of starts this season, with three wins between them, having played 21 games in total.

Vilakazi’s departure came as a huge surprise as Arrows also defeated SuperSport United 3-0 in their last game, moving to the second on the table with 10 points after five matches — the same amount of wins as Spurs, Chippa, Polokwane and Richards Bay combined.

Looking at the signings that they made, which mostly were smart free agents and Vilakazi was at the heart of that, Arrows looked on track to be finishing in the top eight this season.

That was Vilakazi’s ambition for 2023/24, having come close last term. He also said he would like to lead Arrows to silverware, as the club last won a major trophy was the MTN8 in the 2009/10 season.

Vilakazi, who also led Arrows to two DStv Diski Challenge titles, was in charge of 43 matches in all competitions with Khenyeza at Arrows, winning 16 of those, losing 15 and drawing 12.
