Lazarous Kambole is on the right track, states the Zesco United bench after the former Kaizer Chiefs striker scored a brace in Sunday morning’s 3-0 home win over Green Eagles in the FAZ Super League.

The game was carried over to Sunday morning after it was paused in the 55th minute on Saturday due to a storm at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, with Zesco leading one-nil via a 2nd-minute Mukuka Chanda goal.

Kambole, who played the full 90 minutes, scored in the 60th minute and two minutes deep into stoppage time to take his tally to three goals in a Zesco shirt.

Zesco assistant coach Tennant Chiluba said in a post-match interview at Levy that Kambole is letting his football do all the talking.

“I think it has worked for him, it is a big bonus for him,” Chilumba said.

“He has struggled for the last few years and I think he is on the right track now.

“It is also raising his confidence it is now up to him to continue working hard putting the ball in the back of the net.”

It is the second successive match that Kambole has found the back of the net for the nine-time Zambian champions since arriving a fortnight ago on a six-month deal from Tanzanian champions Young Africans.

Kambole scored on his debut on January 28 with a 34th minute opener in Zesco’s 1-1 away draw at Lumwana Radiants.

The striker’s early form at Zesco comes after an unsuccessful three years at Chiefs whom he joined from the Ndola club in 2019.

And the match also saw ex-Baroka FC goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe start for Zesco for the first time following his recent recovery from an injury he sustained last November.

But ex-Stellenbosch FC midfielder Nathan Sinkala did not make the team.

Meanwhile, the win lifts Zesco from 11th to 8th on the FAZ Super League table with 31 points with twelve games left to play.

Zesco is now eleven points behind league leaders Power Dynamos whom they visit in the big Copperbelt derby showdown on February 11 in Kitwe.
