On Wednesday, 13 July 2022, MMC for Community Safety Cllr Lethlogonolo Moseki along with the EMPD members paid a visit to the family members of the shooting victims in Kwenele Park, Katlehong.
On Monday, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Community Safety has paid an oversight visit to the Katlehong SAPS and the tarven where two patrons were gunned down in Kwanele.
This follows the shooting at Putlane tavern, which claimed the lives of 28-year-old Sbusiso Hlatshwayo and 56-year-old James Dlamini.
The MMC and the City’s chief of police went to offer emotional support and extended their condolences to the two families affected by this new trend taking place in taverns.
They gave words of support and also assured the families that they will do all in their power to make sure that justice prevails and urged the families or anyone with information to come forward.
Dlamini’s sister Thuli said they are very devastated by the passing of their brother.
“Sadly, we had to lose our brother in this manner, we did not just lose a brother but someone who played a huge role in our family,” she said.
Hlatshwayo’s sister Thembi mentioned that as a family they are very saddened by the passing of their brother and they are very much in shock by the tragedy.
“As a family, we are very saddened and shocked by what happened, it has really affected us a lot but we are also grateful for the support we are receiving from everyone around us,” she stated.
The case is still under investigation and the MMC urged the community to help the police in their fight against crime.
