FAME Shorts Film Festival 2026 line-up unveiled

The continent’s cinematic voice is taking centre stage as Cape Town prepares to host the annual creative gathering FAME Week Africa, taking place from 28 October to 1 November 2026 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC 2).

Bringing together film, television, animation, music, and digital content creators, the event stands as Mzansi’s premier destination for African storytelling and creative industry innovation.

Running alongside the broader industry conference, the FAME Shorts Film Festival will light up the big screen from 30 October to 1 November 2026 at The Rockefeller Hotel in Cape Town.

Designed to elevate short-form filmmaking, the festival provides a dedicated platform for visionary directors, technical artisans, and emerging storytelling talent from across South Africa and the wider continent.

Highlighting the 2026 short film roster

This year’s official FAME Shorts Film Festival lineup features 36 curated short films spanning comedy, drama, documentary, musical, and experimental genres.

Giving audiences an exclusive look at some of the most compelling works on the festival circuit, the 2026 selection includes:

• Runner (Cape Town premiere): Directed by Mmathabo Bopape, this 25-minute South African comedy brings sharp humour and local character dynamics to the festival screen.
• Sanctuary (South African premiere): Hailing from Nigeria and directed by Chavala Yaduma, this 19-minute dramatic short explores intense human emotion and personal resilience.
• It’s Just A Movie (Cape Town premiere): A 27-minute South African comedy directed by Shimane Mamashela, offering a humorous meta-take on storytelling and cinema culture.
• Juju (World premiere): Directed by Robyn Phillips and Ehsan Bhatti, Cape Town audiences will be among the first in the world to experience this 7-minute South African comedy short.
• Queezy Visits the Races (World premiere): A 5-minute South African documentary short directed by Ben Mall.
• Everything Between Us: Directed by Robyn Phillips, this 17-minute South African romantic drama dives deep into complex personal relationships.
• Sikelela (Cape Town premiere): A 11-minute South African musical short directed by Lungile Themba, celebrating music, spirit, and culture.

With themes spanning romance, social critique, cultural heritage, and resilience, the festival promises three days of immersive storytelling, filmmaker Q&A sessions, and groundbreaking African cinema.
