Former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids has come out and insisted that co-coaching is not for him.
Davids spent three years at Orlando Stadium, initially serving as assistant under Rulani Mokwena, Milutin Sredojevic and Josef Zinnbauer before being named co-coach alongside Mandla Ncikazi in the 2021/22 campaign.
Pirates came close to lifting the CAF Confederations Cup and could’ve finished second in the DStv Premiership but a defeat on penalties and running out of steam in their final three league games turned the season into a disappointment for the club.
Davids had been quiet since his departure from the Sea Robbers but now gave iDiski Times a must-read interview during which he criticised the concept of co-coaching but insisted he’s on good terms with Ncikazi.
“Although we have a good working relationship, the co-coaching concept has its challenges. Basically, this co- coaching concept does not work,” Davids told iDiski Times.

“There will always be a compromise on either side with most decisions we take. Because although you may both agree on the outcome you want, the application of achieving that outcome will 9/10 times differ.
“We always tried to remain professional throughout this experience, always trying to put the club first and ego’s aside. A club needs a strong leader and all the staff should follow his way.
“Sundowns are just an ‘exception to the rule’, two very good coaches working together and would do well at any club in the PSL, but put that same co-coaching combination at another club, you would see different results.”
