Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker has confirmed that former player Lelethu Skelem is training with the club, but he has had no communication with another former player, Nkanyiso Zungu.
Zungu was released by Richards Bay last week for disciplinary issues. The former Stellenbosch midfielder who worked closely with Barker at Stellies and at AmaZulu before that, is on the books of Orlando Pirates now.
However, his agent Mike Makaab has confirmed that Zungu will also not be returning to Soweto.
Barker, speaking after his teams’ 5-2 victory over Golden Arrows, said he has not spoken to Zungu.
However he did confirm positive news about another former player, Lelethu Skelem.
Skelem is training with Stellenbosch, after being released by Maritzburg United earlier in the season.
“Ja, no, obviously, you know, it’s sad for a player like Zungu, but I’m not too sure,” Barker said after the Arrows game.
“But to give you some good news, Lelethu Skelem is training with us. He’s really trying hard to get himself back to a good level, so we’re happy to help him.
“Ja, I can’t control what players do once they leave here.”
