Ex-Chiefs star finally signs contract in North Africa

After leaving Kaizer Chiefs, star striker Khama Billiat finally signs a contract in North Africa with Egyptian giants Zamalek.

A local football publication, Phakaaathi reports that the former Chiefs star striker signs a contract with the White Knights as the speculation surrounding his future has come to an end.

This comes as The South African also published that the former Mamelodi Sundowns hitman was on his way to North Africa to join Zamalek.

EX-CHIEFS STAR SIGNS CONTRACT IN NORTH AFRICA

According to the report, Billiat has signed on the dotted line with the North African giants, Zamalek and could be officially unveiled by the Egyptian Premier League outfit.

“But now Phakaaathi can report with certainty that Billiat had found his new home with Egypt’s Zamalek,” reports Phakaaathi.

“While the details are not clear at the moment, Phakaaathi has the contract signed between Billiat and the Egyptian giants.

“Following the signing, Billiat was captured on camera, basking in the company of his friends.”

Billiat left the Naturena-based Chiefs without officially saying his goodbyes to the club and his former teammates.

He has also lashed out at South African media for not focusing on his game.

Instead, he suggested the media mainly focused on political narratives as he failed to make an impact at Chiefs compared to Sundowns.

CHIEFS RESPOND TO EX-STAR’S WHEREABOUTS, LANDS CONTRACT

This publication reported that while the drama surrounding Billiat’s whereabouts, Chiefs have clarified the future of the talented attacker, saying the star has not gone AWOL.

Chiefs responded Billiat has not gone AWOL as he remains under no contract at Naturena, contrary to reports that he has disappeared and he will play football in North Africa.

According to Chiefs corporate communications manager, Vina Maphosa, he said Billiat’s situation is technical and it’s difficult to say the player has gone AWOL.

“It’s a very technical situation and actually awkward to call it ‘AWOL’ when the contract has expired on the 30th but our concern is on humanitarian grounds, that wherever he is he is safe,” he said, as per Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000 last month.

“Khama is a marquee player and a very important player we’ve had in recent times. Remember when we signed him he was not only dubbed ‘marquee’, he was dubbed ‘the biggest coup’ of the transfer window.
