An Eswatini midfielder believes he is the solution to Royal AM’s problems, as he keeps his fingers crossed in anticipation of a PSL breakthrough.
The KwaZulu-Natal-based club has had to endure a poor start to the new season, something that has been attributed to the FIFA transfer ban.
It is this ban that halted the completion of the transfer of the Eswatini midfielder Mxolisi Mkhonto to Royal AM. He is currently in Green Mamba’s books.
The ban was imposed on Royal AM after they failed to pay R12 million owed to their former striker, Samir Nurkovic.
And the Eswatini midfielder can only have his move completed in the event that Royal AM pays Samir Nurkovic‘s dues.
WHAT THE ESWATINI MIDFIELDER, MXOLISI MKHONTO SAID
Although it is not clear how the Shauwn Mkhize-owned club will navigate the murky situation, the 29-year-old Eswatini midfielder has not stopped hoping for his PSL breakthrough.
“No, I haven’t signed yet. They [Royal AM] are still sorting out the ban issues. They are promising to sign me, and to be honest, I am looking forward to it. I’m hungry to play in PSL,” Mxolisi Mkhonto told FARPost.
At the moment, Thwihli Thwahla are a pale shadow of themselves, perhaps because of the ban.
They suffered their second consecutive defeat last Friday at the hands of stubborn Stellenbosch FC.
The match ended 3-1 in favour of Stellies, with 22-year-old Hopewell Cele scoring the only goal for John Maduka’s men. Before that, they had settled for a share of the spoils with AmaZulu, followed by a 4-2 defeat to Orlando Pirates.
This means they have only managed to pick one point from a possible nine. And many have blamed the FIFA transfer ban as the cause.
When the season started, Royal AM parted ways with several players who they couldn’t replace because of the embargo.
The players include Ricardo Nascimento and Lantshene Phalane, among others.
