Eskom has ramped up blackouts from Stage 3 to Stage 4 from 10 am on Saturday, until 5 am on Monday.
The power utility says this is due to additional breakdown overnight which has worsened generation capacity.
Eskom says it’s been forced to implement Stage 4 power cuts in order to restore emergency reserves to ensure blackouts remain at lower stages next week.
It’s promised to update the public on the state of the power system on Monday.
