Eskom, the embattled power utility in South Africa, has recently announced the appointment of its new CEO, Dan Marokane.

Marokane will assume his duties from 1 March, becoming the eleventh person in a decade to be appointed to the top job at Eskom.

This appointment comes after the power utility has been without a permanent CEO since February last year when Andre de Ruyter left with immediate effect.

Dan Marokane is not new to Eskom, having previously served as an executive at the parastatal institution from January 2010 to June 2015.

His return to the company has been met with enthusiasm from Eskom employees, who remember his hands-on leadership style that is much needed in the current situation.

Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokoena, conveyed the official welcome from the Eskom board and its chairman, Mr Mteto Nyati, to Dan Marokane. The board expressed their excitement about Marokane rejoining the company and acknowledged his previous contributions during his earlier tenure.

With the appointment of Dan Marokane, Eskom aims to bring stability and effective leadership to the power utility, which has faced numerous challenges in recent years.

Marokane’s experience and familiarity with the company will be instrumental in navigating the complex issues and ensuring a reliable and sustainable power supply for South Africa.

As Eskom moves forward under new leadership, the appointment of Dan Marokane marks a significant step towards addressing the organization’s ongoing challenges and working towards a brighter future for the power utility and the country as a whole.
