Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga has chosen to represent Sweden over Cameroon.

The 19-year-old has been invited by coach Janne Andersson for the World Cup play-off against the Czech Republic this month.

Elanga is the son of former Cameroon defender Joseph Elanga, who played 17 games for the Indomitable Lions between 1998 and 2002.

However, the Red Devils’ starlet was born in Sweden and has represented the European country at the youth level.

The 19-year-old footballer had the option of representing Cameroon after being approached by António Conceição (Cameroon head coach) but has chosen the country of his birth.

Meanwhile the Swedish mentor Andersson added: “We have followed Anthony closely and he has made a positive impression both in the Under-21 national team and in the club team.”

“A fast and good deep lead player and a good finisher. We have had some contact recently and it will be fun to get him into our squad.”
