Egyptian club hit by players boycott over unpaid dues | African News

Egyptian Premier League side Ismaily players have revealed that they have not been paid their salaries for months, an issue that saw former Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga dump the club.

Shonga has since joined Sekhukhune United, while Namibian striker Benson Shilongo parted ways with the Ismaïlia-based outfit over the same reason.

A group of players from the club boycotted the club’s training session on Monday in protest of the delay in receiving their financial dues.

The players said: “We were not paid our wages for months, but we didn’t talk as we understood that the club was going through a rough time.

“The club officials promised us that we would get paid soon on multiple occasions, but nothing happened, and we preferred not to speak out of respect for Ismaily fans.

“Now, a number of players are in debt, and some even face imprisonment over unpaid debts. Some foreign players were kicked out of their houses as they couldn’t pay their rent.

“This has become a very difficult situation, the money we earn playing football is how we help our families, and all we get are club officials’ lies.

“As players, we fully appreciate the fans’ support, and we fully respect the technical staff who tried to help, but the club officials did nothing to fix the situation.”
