All conquering and heavily criticised Mamelodi Sundowns were surprisingly the only club that did not sign players in the January transfer window.
That is despite the criticism that the club received from ex-player Jabu Mahlangu, who said they are signing good players but they are not using them and they are sitting in the stands.
This could be due to Sundowns coasting with this season’s league title with a whooping 23 points ahead of second placed SuperSport United, with coach Rulani Mokwena saying they would need to let players go rather than signing.
The Tshwane giants are on 55 points after 21 matches, while SSU are on 22 points from 19 games.
While Sundowns did not pay any money to buy in players in January, going with a motto of ‘why fix it when it is not broken’, fourth-placed Orlando Pirates were quite busy – bringing in Makhehleni Makhaula, Craig Martin, Ndumiso Mabena and Souabou Marou.
Kaizer Chiefs, who lost midfielder Njabulo Blom to St Louis City in the MLS, only signed Congolese striker Christian Saile Basomboli. Thatayaone Ditlhokwe will only join them at the beginning of next season from SuperSport United after he was signed on the pre-contract.
SuperSport United brought on Zukile Kewuti and Mamour Niang. Zakhele Lepasa was signed on loan from Orlando Pirates.
Cape Town City signed Juan Camilo Zapata and Lorenzo Gordinho.
Stellenbosch FC signed Andre de Jong and Iqraam Rayners.
Golden Arrows signed Scelokuhle Hlatshwayo and Ntsako Makhubela, with the latter coming back on loan from Orlando Pirates.
Maritzburg United signed Mogamad de Goede, Jose Ali Meza, Tebogo Tloane, Wayde Jooste, Kwame Peprah (on loan from Pirates) and Bradley Cross.
AmaZulu brought in Junior Sede Dion, Guily Manziba and Jody February (on loan from Sundowns).
