Bayern Munich have taken many by surprise after completing a surprise Deadline Day deal for Joao Cancelo.
The 28-year-old has joined the Bundesliga giants on loan from Manchester City after reportedly falling out with Pep Guardiola.
The German giants pounced on the situation and – to the shock of many – City were willing to let Cancelo, who was nailed on starter for Guardiola over large parts of his City career.
The attacking right-back joined Bayern on an initial loan deal, which is understood to include a €70 million purchase option.
“FC Bayern is a great club, one of the best in the world, and it’s enormous motivation for me to now play alongside these extraordinary players in a team,” he commented.
“I know that this club, this team lives for titles and wins titles every year. I’m also driven by the hunger for success. I‘ll give my best for FC Bayern.”
Cancelo, who’ll wear the No. 22 shirt, had joined Man City in 2019 in a swap deal with Brazilian full-back Danilo and had since made 154 appearances for the Premier League side, scoring nine goals and setting up 22 more.
He lifted five trophies in England, including two Premier League titles and will be keen to help Bayern secure their 11th successive Bundesliga title.
