Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has found a new Premier Soccer League club and signed with Swallows FC after their ban was lifted.
On Friday, Swallows announced that their transfer ban by FIFA had been lifted and they were now able to register new players.
However, there wasn’t much time left for the Dube Birds to complete new deals.
One of the first transfers since the expiration of the ban is the signing of goalkeeper Akpeyi.
Akpeyi, 36, was among the players released by Chiefs at the end of last season. He was close to joining Sekhukhune United ahead of the 2022/23 campaign but his deal eventually fell through.
He had been training with Swallows earlier in the campaign already, but at the time the Soweto side weren’t able to resolve their transfer ban, leaving the player in limbo.
However, he has now penned a six-month contract with an option to extend it by two years.
Swallows will be his third club in South Africa after he’s made 104 appearances for Chippa and 69 for Chiefs.
