Donald appreciates Amanda Black

Musician Donald took to social media to share a heartfelt open letter expressing his admiration for fellow South African artist Amanda Black.

The post, which included a video of Amanda performing on stage and a screenshot of a 2018 WhatsApp message he had sent her, has captured the attention of fans online.

In the letter, Donald declared himself Amanda Black’s “No. 1 fan,” recalling how he has followed her career since her time on Idols.

“If anyone has never told you, I’m here to tell you you have had an amazing career so far, one that many artists out there can only dream of having,” he wrote.

“You’re regarded as one of the most powerful voices of our generation and I’m here to remind you that YOU DID THAT girl, and I know there’s so much more for you to do going forward.”

Donald shared a personal memory of seeing Amanda perform live at the State Theatre in 2016, during her first single “AmaZulu.”

He admitted the performance moved him to tears: “I swear I was in tears that day but I had to play it cool around people because you know a thug can’t be seen crying in public mos lol. I knew that day you were destined for greatness.”

He also revealed that he had once written a verse for “AmaZulu” hoping to collaborate with her on a remix, and that he had sent her a supportive WhatsApp message in 2018, which remained unread after she changed her number.

“I’ve sometimes worried about you from a distance because I feel like some people don’t understand just how lucky we all are to be experiencing you and your talent in real time,” he said.

Donald concluded the letter with gratitude and admiration: “In this moment I am not your colleague, I’m just a guy who loves your music and who respects you as a human being… PS: I don’t know why I’ve never asked you to do a song with me, Oh well, who knows what the future holds?”
