On Tuesday, more details and the current voting standings for the 2022 Carling Cup were confirmed during the competition’s official launch event.

After recently introducing the new Carling Knockout Cup, which will start from 2022/23, Premier Soccer League chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza confirmed the return of the Carling Black Label Cup in the end of July.

However, the tournament format will change, with four teams set to compete in the new Carling Cup and fans voting for those four teams to take part in the competition with all 16 DStv Premiership being available for selection.

Overall, R11.6 million in price money is up for grabs, as Khoza confirmed.

“Teams that are not winning the vote, will get R100,000 each for having been in draw,” Khoza said recently.

“The top four [who will compete in the Carling Black Label Cup] are getting R2 million each. The winner gets an extra R2 million, but R500,000 of it will go to a fan and another R500,000 to a charity of his/her choice.

The new four-team Carling Cup will be played on 12 November at FNB Stadium, with fans voting for the four teams to take part and face each other in two semi-finals.

In the current standing, Kaizer Chiefs are leading the voting with 85,773 votes followed by Orlando Pirates with 58,945 and Mamelodi Sundowns with 27,553. The fourth spot is closely contested but currently held by AmaZulu, who have received 4,992 votes so far, as confirmed by SABC Sport and iDiski Times journalist Velile Mnyandu.
