South African singer Danny K is mourning the death of his wife, Lisa Koppel, with the family asking for privacy following her passing.

The news was confirmed on Monday by Danny K’s mother, Pam Koppel.

She indicated that the family would not be issuing a formal public statement and that the circumstances surrounding Lisa’s death would remain private.

A life beyond the spotlight

Lisa, the daughter of prominent divorce attorney Billy Gundelfinger, began her career as a model before moving into the legal profession.

She was admitted as an advocate of the High Court in 2010 and went on to build a career in law.

Lisa and Danny K married in 2012 and shared three children.

While Danny K has enjoyed a long and successful career in the South African music industry, Lisa largely maintained a lower public profile, balancing her professional career with family life.

Family tragedy

Lisa’s death is another devastating loss for the Koppel family.

Danny K has previously spoken about the profound impact of losing his brother, Jarren, who died in a helicopter crash in 2003.

Danny K, a multiple South African Music Award winner, has remained one of South Africa’s best-known entertainers since rising to prominence in the early 2000s.

Poem

His father, Gavin Koppel, also appeared to reflect on grief in a poem titled My Promise, which he shared on social media on Sunday, 9 August.

In the emotional poem, he wrote about turning pain into compassion and vowed: “I will use my pain to heal from this day forward.”

Although Gavin did not explicitly refer to Lisa or confirm her death, the post appeared as news of the family’s loss emerged.

Tributes and messages of condolence have since begun circulating as friends, colleagues and members of the public remember Lisa.

The family has asked for privacy as they mourn her death and support her three children through the difficult period.
