South African vocalist SPHEMusic, best known for her early collaboration with DJ Bongz on As Long As You Love Me, is making her return to music with her soulful new single, Lomuntu.

Inspired by finding love again and being in a positive space emotionally, spiritually and mentally, the song offers a glimpse into where SPHEMusic is in her life and career today.

A song inspired by love and positive energy

Lomuntu is a warm, soulful dance record centred around love, connection and the joy of being in a good place.

The track combines SPHEMusic’s emotive vocals with uplifting production, creating a sound that feels both nostalgic and fresh.

Produced by acclaimed producer Samurai Yasusa, one half of South African DJ duo Kususa, the single blends melodic production with SPHEMusic’s distinctive vocal style.

“I was in a really beautiful space emotionally, spiritually and mentally, and I wanted to share that energy through music,” said SPHEMusic.

“I think we often underestimate the power of simply sharing good energy and genuine love with the world.”

‘My songs are like pages from my diary’

For SPHEMusic, songwriting has always been closely connected to her personal experiences.

She describes her music as an extension of herself, allowing her to express emotions she may struggle to communicate in everyday conversations.

“My songs are like pages from my diary,” she explained. “They allow me to express things I may not always know how to say in conversation.”

That personal approach is evident in Lomuntu, which captures the warmth and vulnerability of finding love and being comfortable in a positive season of life.

From teenage vocalist to corporate career

SPHEMusic’s relationship with music began when she was just 16 years old, when she was featured by DJ Bongz on As Long As You Love Me.

The collaboration introduced her nostalgic vocal style to a wider audience and marked the beginning of her journey in the music industry.

However, she later stepped away from music to focus on her education and establish a successful corporate career outside the entertainment industry.

Her return to music is now driven by a desire to reconnect with the part of herself that has always been passionate about creating and performing.

“I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m giving myself permission to fully pursue what feeds my deepest passion and purpose,” she says.

“I’m doing me, and I’m allowing the music to lead the way.”

Building on her musical journey

SPHEMusic later returned to the spotlight with Khuluma, featuring award-winning songwriter and producer Mondli Ngcobo. The song received radio and television exposure and was followed by her 2022 debut album, Beautiful.

The album gave the vocalist an opportunity to establish herself as a solo artist and tell her own story beyond the collaborations that first introduced her to music lovers.

Lomuntu marks a new chapter

While Lomuntu draws from SPHEMusic’s personal experiences, the singer says her return is not simply about recreating the past.

Instead, she is building on her previous experiences while giving herself the freedom to explore a new creative direction.

The single represents a new chapter in which she is approaching her artistry with greater intention and allowing her music to evolve alongside her.

What’s next for SPHEMusic?

Lomuntu is just the beginning of what SPHEMusic has planned.

The vocalist is currently working on an upcoming EP, with more collaborations and features in development as she continues shaping the next phase of her career.

She counts Nigerian singer Tems among the artists she admires, particularly for her songwriting and emotional honesty.

A collaboration with Black Coffee is also high on her creative wish list.

For SPHEMusic, Lomuntu is ultimately more than a comeback single. It is a celebration of love, growth and rediscovering the joy of music.

After stepping away from the industry to pursue other ambitions, the vocalist is now giving herself permission to follow her passion once again — one soulful song at a time.
