DA Leader Visits Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini to Affirm Respect for Traditional Leadership
Democratic Alliance federal leader and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis led a senior party delegation on a courtesy visit to His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini at the Emashobeni Royal Palace, KZN today, Tuesday.
Hill-Lewis was accompanied by DA National Chairperson Solly Msimanga, KwaZulu-Natal DA leader Sithembiso Ngema, and other senior figures. The visit was described as an affirmation of the party’s respect for the institution of traditional leadership and its role in the lives of millions of South Africans.
In a statement, Hill-Lewis said the DA would continue to build respectful relationships with traditional authorities as it expands nationally. He emphasised that the best way to honour the Zulu nation is to build a country that works, one where young people can find work, families can live in safety, and children can receive quality education.
The DA said the engagement forms part of broader outreach to traditional leaders and communities across the country. Hill-Lewis noted that while culture provides roots, effective governance creates the opportunities for people to flourish, and that a DA-led national government would respect heritage while delivering on jobs, safety, education, and turning land into a productive economic asset.
The visit marks one of the first high-level engagements by the current DA leadership with the Zulu monarch.
