A POPULAR alcohol brand has cleared the air around its partnership with rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes.
This after bottles of Cruz Vodka without the AKA branding were seen making the rounds, leaving people speculating that the brand had dumped the rapper.
Addressing the matter, the brand released a brief statement, saying: “Dear Cruz family: We have noted that generic branded Cruz watermelon bottles have been released into the South African market in error. These bottles were intended to carry the AKA brand name, and were not intended for local market sale,” read the statement.
The brand further apologised for the mishap.
“AKA remains a valuable part of the Cruz family and we are working to resolve this. Our apologies for disappointing any of our fans.”
Speaking to Daily Sun AKA’s legal advisor Rudolph Baloyi said they have noted and have been in engagements with Cruz SA, who picked up the error.
“They have also have since communicated the value of the CruzXAKA Brand to the public. CruzSA has also on social media, reiterated the valuable part AKA retains in their brand stable, where they noted the public’s displeasure at the omission of his name on the bottles. ”
“Our team and Cruz SA are currently in engagements to ensure that errors as these don’t happen in future.”
This all comes after AKA resumed his duties with the brand late last year after taking a break following the death of his fiancée, Anele Tembe.
At the time, he announced that he had decided to temporarily take a step back.
“I have done this for the sake of Anele’s memory, that will forever be entrenched in my heart, our families and my fans. I am grateful to my business partners at Cruz Vodka for all the support and understanding of my decision to give me time. Daily, I wake up to the reality. The pain is unbearable. With God’s grace, I will remain strong and pick up the pieces,” he said.
