Confirmed: Xulu Leaves Hapoel Tel Aviv

Bafana Bafana defender Siyanda Xulu has left Hapoel Tel Aviv after both parties agreed to mutually terminate the player’s contract.

The 30-year-old featured 19 times for the Israeli-an side but wasn’t in the squad for Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hapoel Beer Sheva.

This publication has now learnt that Xulu and Tel Aviv agreed to part ways, four months before his current deal was set to expire.

Xulu, a former Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United defender, had earned a recall to Bafana following his fine performances overseas and has become one of the pillars in Hugo Broos’ squad.

However, the centre-back will now be without club football until at least 1 July because he can only move to a club in country where the transfer window is open, leaving him with limited options right now.

The player didn’t have any previous disciplinary issues and was a regular for Tel Aviv but following a build-up of events, Xulu is said to have felt mistreated leading towards his eventual exit in Israel.

Overall, Xulu made 53 appearances for Hapoel Tel Aviv, scoring one goal since joining them from Maritzburg in August 2020.
