Chiefs vs City Drama Continues

Despite Kaizer Chiefs’ fixture against Cape Town City being rescheduled for 30 April, it remains unclear whether the Citizens will honour the game after not hearing any official correspondence from the PSL.

Even though the Premier Soccer League (PSL) didn’t officially announce the dates of Kaizer Chiefs’ two outstanding fixtures against Lamontville Golden Arrows, Amakhosi confirmed they are scheduled to face Arrows on 27 April and the Cape Town City fixture was scheduled for 30 April.

iDiski Times has learnt that Cape Town City was not consulted by the PSL when the dates were set up and they argue that both teams were supposed to be involved in the decision about the revised date.

According to a source, City sent a letter to the PSL, requesting for their game to be scheduled after 10 May, which is the court date for the PSL’s case against the arbitration ruling that stated Chiefs’ two games should be replayed.

City will leave Cape Town on Tuesday to Pretoria as they will be facing Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night, with Masandawana potentially clinching their fifth league title in a row, while City will be keen to keep their CAF club competition hopes for next season alive, even though they are currently sitting five points behind second-placed Royal AM.

The visitors are currently planning to come back to Cape Town after their trip to Gauteng, even though their rescheduled fixture against Kaizer Chiefs is also up north, unless they will receive correspondence from the PSL, the source told iDiski Times.

If the PSL will insist on playing City’s game against Chiefs before 10 May, the decision will lie with chairman John Comitis and coach Eric Tinkler, whether the Citizens will honour that fixture.

The league had sent an internal circular, which this publication has seen, to all chair person of PSL clubs, stating they would reschedule Amakhosi’s two December fixtures, which they failed to honour after a serious Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena, even though the court case will only be heard at the Johannesburg High Court on 10 May.

The circular also stated that should the court rule in favour of the PSL then the match – whichever result on the pitch – would be ruled as 3-0 against Chiefs.
