A Kaizer Chiefs star has been called up to Bafana Bafana to replace Lyle Foster, who was withdrawn from the squad after sustaining an injury.
Foster, who plies his trade in the Belgian Pro League for KVC Westerlo, is ruled of two Bafana international friendlies against Sierra Leone and Botswana set to take place at FNB Stadium on the 23rd and 27th of September.
Chiefs forward Ashley Du Preez has joined Hugo Broos 23-men squad in camp as the team guns for positive results in both friendly matches.
MAIDEN CALL-UP
“Warm welcome to Ashley Du Preez as he joins camp, replacing Lyle Foster who has been released due to injury,” Bafana Bafana said in a tweet.
Du Preez joined Amakhosi at the beginning of 2022/23 season from Stellenbosch after scoring nine goals and contributing two assist in the DStv Premiership last campaign.
It is Du Preez’ maiden call-up to the national team and Amakhosi also congratulated their star.
Bafana Bafana Call-Ups! Congratulations to Ashley Du Preez on being called up to play for the Men’s Senior National Soccer Team,” said Chiefs.
The 25-year year old attacker helped Stellies achieve their highest ever finish on the league table since gaining promotion to the top flight in the 2018/19 season.
Foster has been in an impressive form for Westerlo after making eight appearances out of nine, scoring two goals while chipping in with two assists.
Meanwhile, Siyanda Xulu has also joined Bafana camp late to replace Thibang Phete who also picked up a knock.
South Africa have failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup which will be hosted at Qatar later this year.
Broos and his charges will be looking for an improved form and stamp their superiority against regional neighbours Botswana and Sierra Leone.
Furthermore, the Belgian-born tactician has made a u-turn and recalled Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane who was initially snubbed from the national team after he was deemed overaged.
