Kaizer Chiefs are monitoring another Premier Soccer League defender after agreeing terms with Stellenbosch FC’s Zitha Kwinika already.
iDiskiTimeshave learned that Chiefs are monitoring another defender after agreeing terms with Stellenbosch FC to lure Kwinika back to Naturena ahead of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.
Kwinika, a product of the Amakhosi academy, has agreed personal terms with Chiefs, while the two clubs have now also agreed the transfer for an undisclosed fee, as Lorenz Kohler reported last week.
However, Amakhosi are seemingly not done in their attempts to stabilise their defence after conceding more than 25 goals this season in all competitions, with Chippa United defender Veluyeke Zulu said to be on the club’s list of transfer targets.
The 27-year-old has played a major role in Chippa’s side this season making 25 appearances in all competitions.
The KwaZulu-Natal-born defender also managed to find the back of the net on two occasions. Before joining Chippa, Zulu spent most of his career in KZN, where he featured for Maritzburg United, Golden Arrows, Royal Eagles and Richards Bay.
In the last six games, the Chilli boys have managed to keep four clean sheets, including in their last three matches.
Chiefs, meanwhile, haven’t found a preferred centre-back pairing, with different combinations between Erick Mathoho, Daniel Cardoso, Njabulo Ngcobo, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Siyabonga Ngezana and Austin Dube all being tested – first by Stuart Baxter and later by Arthur Zwane.
