  • Vusi ā€œCatā€ Matlala will testify before the Ad Hoc Committee from inside the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.
  • He has been repeatedly implicated in police corruption networks and is currently in custody for the attempted murder of Tebogo Thobejane.
  • The committee will also hear from senior SAPS officials as it investigates criminal infiltration of the justice system.

The Ad Hoc Committee probing alleged criminal infiltration of South Africa’s justice system is set to hear an explosive testimony this coming week,Ā including evidence from notorious businessman and alleged underworld figure Vusi ā€œCatā€ Matlala, who will testify from the Kgosi Mampuru C-max prison in Tshwane.

Matlala, long linked to police corruption networks, has been repeatedly named at both the Madlanga Commission and the Ad Hoc Committee as a key figure with deep, illicit influence over members of law enforcement.Ā

Several witnesses have alleged that police officers and officials were on Matlala’s payroll, enabling him to operate with impunity for years.

He is currently in custody facing charges related to the attempted murder of his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane.Ā

The Ad Hoc Committee was established to investigate allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who claimed that criminal syndicates, cartel bosses,Ā and politically connected individuals have infiltrated the criminal justice system, compromising investigations and undermining police operations.

The hearings, to be held at the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre, will see Matlala testify alongside two other key witnesses.

ā€œIn addition to Mr Matlala, the committee has resolved to hear from the SAPS’ Chief Financial Officer and the Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, Lt Gen Puleng Dimpane,ā€ Parliament said in a statement.
