Castro Speaks After Kaizer Chiefs Exit

Leonardo Castro has spoken for the first time about his departure since his Kaizer Chiefs’ exit was announced.

Castro was one of nine players that were released by the Amakhosi hierarchy, as the club is trimming and moulding the squad under new coach Arthur Zwane within the current transfer window.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker enjoyed a lengthy spell at Chiefs but wasn’t as productive as compared to his stay at Chloorkop, which was mostly due to a series of injuries. The Colombian striker scored 29 goals for Chiefs, which leaves him as the 10th highest goal scorer to play for Chiefs since the inception of the PSL in 1996.

The 33-year-old was speaking on the Marawa Sports Worldwide show on Tuesday.

“I have experienced enough, I smelt it right, but I think the management should do better actions with the players because it shows respect first,” Castro told Robert Marawa.

“Even if you didn’t win a trophy, but you know you have to think about this is a man, and this man has a family behind. You know I was not surprised I smelled it, they need changes for the better, for the future. I didn’t take it as a surprise, or whatever.

“I was really hoping, for me it was disappointing to not be part of the team, because I wanted to be a champion with the team because for the past four years, maybe people don’t agree but everywhere I travel the stadiums were full my man of supporters of Chiefs. No matter if we are fighting for the title or fighting for top eight, the people are there, the people are loyal. This is one thing I really miss, to compete at Chiefs but it’s part of life, it’s part of soccer, I accept it.”
