Casric Coach ‘Clears Air’ On Being A Chiefs Supporter

Casric head coach Joseph ‘Bucs’ Mthombeni says his love for Kaizer Chiefs didn’t affect their desire to win but wished them best of luck for the rest of the season.

Mthombeni stated in the pre-match media event that he grew up as a massive Amakhosi fan which is the reason his side celebrated when they were drawn with Chiefs.

And at FNB Stadium the, DStv Premiership hopefuls, gave a good account of themselves in the 2-1 defeat, showing glimpses of what’s propelled them to third place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this season.

“Congratulations to Chiefs, we know Chiefs is a big team and I just wish them good luck going forward,” Mthombeni said in the post-match press conference.

But when pressed by iDiski Times about the experience of facing the Soweto giants at the Calabash and if there were any lessons learned for his promotion chase, Mthombeni said he felt the need to clear the air.

“Yeah you see, what I want to clear up is when you love something… now when people ask you questions about it, you need to tell the truth – it’s not a secret that I grew up as a Kaizer Chiefs fan,” he responded to this publication.

“That one we put aside, I came here as a Casric coach, but I have learned a lot because Kaizer Chiefs – they have disciplined players from defence, even when they move the ball around, they move it quicker and into spaces.

“They are more physical than us too, but we learned a lot from here – I think I must go home and watch the game properly and see where we can correct going forward because you can’t score a goal now and then immediately conceded [again].

“I think the players just dropped their heads a little but, not knowing after you score, a team can come back stronger, I learned once you score [at this level] you need to stay more disciplined and compact.”

Casric return to action on Wednesday afternoon against league leaders Polokwane City in what will be a top of the table clash and potentially pivotal in the title race.
