Sekhukhune United vice-captain Daniel Cardoso has opened up on the emotional fixture against his former club Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership this weekend.
Cardoso, 32, spent seven seasons at the club, a period where they won no silverware before he eventually parted ways and joined Sekhukhune at the start of this season.
However, he’s not held back when discussing what went wrong during his time with the club and went on to state their new vision of building with youth won’t end their eight-year trophy drought this season.
“Chiefs will always be in my heart… there will be emotions, the same as the first-round clash at FNB in my old home stadium, it’s definite, emotions will flare,” Cardoso said when asked about the game at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
“But on the day, it’s not going to happen, I enjoy that kind of pressure, I enjoy people being on my back and it’s a nice time for it to come up.
“We have to get the three points, there’s no doubt about it – just to solidify that top eight spot.”
Babina Noko secured a 1-0 win in the reverse fixture at the Calabash but now find themselves in foreign territory where they could meet Amakhosi in the final of the Nedbank Cup.
“Congrats to Sekhukhune first of all, it’s history for the club and it will be a very nice final if we do meet Chiefs in the final and we take the victory – I think that will just add a cherry on top but I don’t want to think ahead, we still have a league fixture and that’s in future,” the South Africa international added before discussing their current game model.
“If you see what [Arthur Zwane] says, they are playing high-press, they bought Ashley du Preez for a reason, to get the ball over the top as you can see it’s working for them, he finds the spaces, so it’s something we need to work on, do it well and take it into the game.”
