Sekhukhune United defender Daniel Cardoso says he’s relishing the chance of finally getting his hands on silverware in his first season with the club.
Cardoso, 34, joined Babina Noko in the off-season after seven seasons with Chiefs where he failed to win a single trophy after Steve Komphela lured him from Free State Stars where he spent three seasons as the first professional club of his career.
And he’s embraced the new challenged, featuring in every minute of their league campaign that’s just past, and with a place in the final, they’ve secure CAF Confederation Cup football for the 2023/24 season – but that’s not enough for the veteran defender.
“Look I’ve been to many cup finals as you know, and always coming out second best, [it’s] not the best feeling, it’s always a bitter pill to swallow,” Cardoso said when asked about potential anxiety going into the final against Orlando Pirates.
“I’m hoping this one I can [help] guide the boys to lifting, I think it would be nice for myself, the club, for the players, everyone is positive, and you can see the energy is great.
“And I think personally for myself, it would be sad to go my whole career without lifting a cup, as you know I’m getting older, after 30 they say you old in this game here in South Africa, which I don’t understand – but ya, I’d love to lift this one with the club only in their second season in the PSL.”
Sekhukhune face off against the Soweto giants on Saturday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld (18h00).
