According to IPID spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, the incident purportedly occurred on June 16, 2024. On that day, the boy’s mother had taken her son to visit the police officer, who is their neighbour.

After consuming alcohol, the mother fell asleep on the couch. It was during this time that the police officer allegedly committed the heinous crime.

The following day, the boy bravely reported the incident to a community member. Consequently, a case of rape was lodged with IPID.

Acting swiftly, IPID arrested the 44-year-old officer, who subsequently appeared in court. His case has been postponed to July 1, 2024, for a formal bail application. As of now, the suspect remains in custody.

The community has been left in shock and outrage over the allegations. The case will be closely monitored as it progresses through the judicial system. The focus now is on ensuring justice for the young victim while maintaining the integrity of the investigative process.
