gunned down their clueless rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 4-0 in the FDH Cup semifinal in Lilongwe on Saturday.
The emphatic win at Bingu National Stadium saw the Malawi league champions book the final berth with Bullets Reserve.
Therefore, the final of the FA Cup equivalent for Malawi football will be a Bullets’ affair.
Goals from Gomezgani Chirwa, man-of-the match Anthony Mfune, Hassan Kajoke and substitute Babatunde Adepoju did the job for Zimbabwean coach Kalisto Pasuwa.
Bullets went into the semifinal match at the packed stadium while smarting from a 4-0 aggregate loss to Simba of Tanzania in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
On the other hand, Wanderers seemed in form after going five games unbeaten on the spin under the stewardship of coach Alex Ngwira.
GOALS GALORE
However, when play started on a cloudless afternoon in front of a sea of red and blue crowd, Bullets looked faster and sharper.
Wanderers, on the other hand, were the sharp contrast—every bit sluggish and clueless.
Little wonder, Bullets went ahead through right-back Chirwa who connected into the net Mfune’s cross from the right-wing.
Mfune should have doubled the advantage earlier but Wanderers’ goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa spread himself to deflect the forward’s shot over the bar.
Bullets led 1-0 at half-time and took only four minutes after restart to double the advantage.
Mfune kept giving Wanderers problems and nearly doubled the advantage but Chipuwa kept out his shot.
However, there was no stopping Bullets a few minutes later when striker Kajoke scored the second goal from the penalty spot after Wanderers defender Miracle Gabeya had fouled him.
Mfune had given Kajoke a wonderful through ball in the 49th minute.
A few minutes later, Bullets put matters beyond the reach of Wanderers with Mfune again reacting the fastest to slide his shot into the net with a low volley.
Bullets, who are chasing a treble, were not yet done.
FINAL NAIL ON WANDERERS COFFIN
Former Wanderers forward Babatunde Adepoju came off the bench to hammer the final nail on the Nomads coffin.
The Nigerian got onto the end of Patrick Mwaungulu’s through ball to slot past keeper Chipuwa. It was game over.
Bullets proceed to meet in the final their reserve side which eliminated Waka Waka Tigers, Red Lions and Blue Eagles to reach the final. FDH is Malawi’s FA Cup equivalent.
Bullets are Malawi’s most successful team with unprecedented 15 league titles under their belt.
Wanderers are Bullets’ sworn Blantyre rivals. Somehow, the final for the FA Cup had to be played away from Blantyre.
