Thami Ndlala Foundation Calls for Probe Into Midrand Police Handling of Case
The Thami Ndlala Foundation has called for an independent investigation into how Midrand police handled a case against businessman Thami Ndlala, alleging an “arrest first, investigate later” approach and raising questions about the involvement of senior Gauteng police officials.
In a statement issued today, Saturday, the foundation said it was responding to allegations made by media personality Blue Mbombo and subsequent court proceedings. It identified the matter as CAS 391/08/26 at Midrand Police Station.
The foundation questioned whether proper procedures were followed and whether personal relationships or outside influence affected the handling of the case. It specifically raised concerns about Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Fred Kekana, who it said was understood to have an association with Tebogo Nokwane and his associates.
The foundation stressed that it was not accusing any police official of criminal misconduct but said the circumstances warranted an independent probe into possible improper influence, preferential treatment or conflicts of interest.
It also criticised what it described as an “arrest first, investigate later” approach, saying allegations appeared to have been escalated into police action before a proper investigation.
Mbombo went public on Friday, alleging months of death threats, verbal abuse and emotional torment, and said Ndlala had allegedly hired people to intimidate her. She said threats were eventually directed at her child, prompting her to open a SAPS case and obtain an interim protection order.
Ndlala has denied the allegations and said he would address the matter through legal processes. The foundation said the allegations should be properly investigated and tested in court.
SAPS, Kekana, Mbombo and Nokwane had not publicly responded to the foundation’s latest statement at the time of publication. The allegations against the police officials remain unproven.
