A Zimbabwean national has been arrested after police raided premises in Hillbrow and uncovered what they suspect was an operation producing fraudulent South African smart ID cards.
Police say the raid uncovered **six completed smart ID cards, 22 blank cards, a laptop and a smart-card printer**.
The suspect was also allegedly recruiting people seeking fraudulent bank statements and payslips.
Police acted on information received on Wednesday, 9 September, leading them to the premises in the Hillbrow precinct.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. The allegations against him have not yet been tested in court.
The arrest comes amid continued concerns over fraudulent identity and immigration documents in South Africa.
