Pirates confirm Mofokeng’s move to Belgium
Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Belgian Pro League club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for the transfer of Bafana Bafana star Relebohile Mofokeng.
The Buccaneers revealed that the two clubs have finalised the transfer fee and the structure of the deal. However, the move will only be completed once Mofokeng successfully undergoes a medical examination and agrees personal terms with the Belgian side.
Pirates also disclosed that the agreement between the two clubs had actually been reached before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The club explained that both parties deliberately chose not to announce the deal before the tournament in order to allow the 21-year-old to focus entirely on representing South Africa.
According to Pirates, the decision was also taken to ensure that transfer speculation did not distract Mofokeng or overshadow Bafana Bafana’s historic World Cup campaign.
The attacking midfielder went on to play a key role as South Africa reached the World Cup knockout stages for the first time in the country’s history.
Pirates have indicated that they will not issue any further statements until Mofokeng has completed his medical and signed his contract with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The move will see one of South Africa’s brightest young talents begin the next chapter of his career in European football.
