According to Provincial Police Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, Sergeant Sinethemba Msutu was involved in an accident with his private vehicle on May 30, 2024.

He was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Later that night, a colleague picked him up and took him to his police barracks at SAPS Cambridge.

On May 31, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, a fire was reported in Sergeant Msutu’s room. Fortunately, he was not present at the time.

However, a missing persons report was filed the same day after his absence was noted. The situation took a grim turn on June 1, 2024, when a fisherman spotted his body between the rocks at West Bank Beach.

An inquest docket has been opened to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sergeant’s death. The results of the post-mortem report are pending, which will hopefully provide more clarity on this unfortunate incident.
