Kaizer Chiefs Team Manager Bobby Motaung has backed Arthur Zwane to come right at the club despite the club’s indifferent start to the campaign.
Zwane was appointed as head coach of the Amakhosi ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, becoming the first ever coach to have been promoted through the ranks – much to the excitement of many fans.
However, some of the excitement had already turned into criticism after the club had fallen to 14th place after seven matches before beating SuperSport United on the weekend.
Bobby Motaung insisted Zwane has the full backing of the club after their heavy squad revamp during the off season, which included the addition of many young players. He also insisted that fans need to be more patient with the technical team.
“Everything needs time, we’ve got a young squad, we’ve got a young coach. When we plan to appoint the coach, when we planed to acquire players, we need to give them a chance,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM.
“Some players take time to adapt, coaching systems sometimes take time. The challenges that they have to go through, the experience of playing for the badge of Kaizer Chiefs, they have to go through these challenges now, so that when we’re settled we know we’re on the role.
“We had a season where we were leading the league by 12 points, we lost within 30 minutes, those are experiences that we’ve learned. This season it’s about patience, it’s about understanding that the boys are young, adapting. There are challenges in football anyway.

“It’s not like by tomorrow you can expect instant results. This game is full of challenges. There are teams who started at the top, where are they today? They are at the bottom. Pointwise we are at the top with the other teams, it’s only goal difference.
“Football is a marathon, there is no instant success in football.”
Chiefs entered the international break in ninth position after collecting 11 points from their first eight matches. They sit eight points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played one more game, but only three behind second-placed Orlando Pirates.
They will face their Soweto rivals Swallows, who dropped to 14th place, on 5 October when league football returns.
