Outgoing Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom has sent a message to his new club fans St Louis City SC, saying he can’t wait to start his next life in the United States of America after he signed with the club on Friday.

Blom, who has been at the loggerheads with Chiefs about contract extension as it was expiring in June, Amakhosi announced his departure with immediate effect after both parties agreed on the undisclosed fee.

According to St Louis, the 23-year-old has signed a two-year contract that runs through the end of the 2024 MLS regular season with two option years in 2025 and 2026.

“I’m really happy to sign with City and I can’t wait to begin the next chapter of my career with St Louis City. Go City,” said Blom.

Blom leaves Chiefs having featured in 13 matches in all competitions this season, including the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates late in October where he was outstanding in the ball recovery for Amakhosi and protected the back four well.

The Dobsonville-born midfielder made his Chiefs debut against Golden Arrows on 1 October 2019 when he was just 19 years, nine months and 20 days old under coach Ernst Middendorp.

In total, Blom featured in 97 matches for Chiefs, including 15 matches in the CAF Champions League last year where Chiefs lost to Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly in the final.

In joining St Louis City, he will work with someone who is very familiar with Chiefs, as the club is coached by Bradley Carnel, who played for Amakhosi between 1997 and 1998. He was officially appointed as the club head coach earlier this year to prepare the team for next season.

St Louis will be making their professional debut in the MLS this season, with the league starting early next year.
