Baxter Gives Chiefs Injury Update

Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has given an injury update ahead of his side’s DStv Premiership clash with SuperSport United.

The Englishman will face his former club for a second time after winning the reverse fixture 2-1 in October. It’s another must-win match, if Chiefs want to keep their hopes of finishing in second place alive.

Baxter has revealed that Leonardo Castro and Cole Alexander have recovered, as have a few players who were ill last week.

“We’ve got roughly the same crop of injuries that we’ve had before, a few of the long-term ones, S’fiso [Hlanti], so and people like that,” Baxter said.

“So we don’t have any more. We’ve got people coming back, like Leo Castro’s in very good shape at the moment, he’s been working very hard. Cole Alexander’s back, he had an extra game last week to get over his dislocated elbow.

“So apart from that, we had a couple that were ill earlier on but Bernard [Parker] made his first training today, Phatu [Nange] had his vaccination so he went two protocol days without training. So we’ve got everybody back in, they did a session today, we’ve just finished it, but everybody worked very hard.

“They seem to be in good spirits and looking forward to the game, especially looking forward to obviously playing in front of the supporters again.”

Amakhosi will take on SuperSport at 19:30 on Saturday, with the visitors heading into the game after parting ways with longterm coach Kaitano Tembo.

The Glamour Boys sit on 39 points in third spot on the DStv Premiership log, four behind second-placed Royal AM, while SuperSport are in eighth with 31 points.
