Baroka join Mamelodi Sundowns, Marumo Gallants, Royal AM and SuperSport United as the five DStv Premiership representatives in the quarter-finals while Tshakhuma and AmaTuks will represent the GladAfrica Championship.

TS Galaxy 1-1 (AET) Baroka Baroka won 5-3 on penalties

Baroka prevailed 5-3 in the penalty shootout against TS Galaxy after it ended 1-1 at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday evening.

Orebotse Mongae forced a save out of Elvis Chipezeze in the 22nd minute, while two minutes later Manuel Kambala’s effort was stopped by Melusi Buthelezi, who had returned to the Galaxy line-up.

Baroka were awarded a penalty on the half-hour mark after Thami Masiya was fouled in the box. Sekela Sithole stepped up to take it and put the visitors into the lead.

Ethan Brooks’ long-range attempt in the 35th minute was deflected behind, while Mongae forced another save from Chipezeze three minutes later.

Buthelezi saved Dan Ndlovu’s attempt in the 39th minute, while Chidi Kwem went just over in stoppage time, as Baroka held onto their 1-0 lead at half-time.

Kwem forced a save from Chipezeze two minutes into the second half, as Galaxy looked for a way back into the tie. But Buthelezi had to be alert in the 50th minute as he made a good save to deny Baroka and Sithole a second.

Galaxy were level in the 73rd minute as Sipho Maluleke scored an unfortunate own goal, heading in from Mongae’s set-piece.

With no winner after 90 minutes, extra time was needed.

Galaxy dominated extra time and Aphelele Teto went close in the opening minutes and then went narrowly wide again in the 20th minute, while Pogiso Sanoka’s header two minutes later was straight at Chipezeze. Sihle Nduli headed wide in the 25th minute. Shane Roberts went wide in the final minute.

But it would be penalties that would decide the victor as no goals were scored in the thirty extra minutes.

Summerfield Dynamos 1-0 Black Eagles

ABC Motsepe outfit Summerfield Dynamos booked their Nedbank Cup quarter-final place as they beat another ABC side Black Eagles 1-0 after extra time at Chatsworth Stadium on Sundown afternoon.

Both teams were littered with players with professional experience, and had seasoned coaches, former Golden Arrows and Bloemfontein Celtic coach Clinton Larsen in charge of Dynamos, while former TS Sporting boss Kabelo Sibiya was on the bench for Eagles.

But it was a goalless first half in Chatsworth, as both teams squandered chances to open the score, the North West’s Eagles team having the better share of those opportunities.

It was more of the same in the second half, and as the game looked to be heading to extra time, Eagles were awarded a stoppage-time penalty for a foul by Thobani Msomi. But Bongani Masoga saved Olwethu Ncube’s spot-kick and it remained goalless after 90 minutes.

It took just one minute of extra time for Dynamos to break the deadlock, an own goal conceded by Tumelo Bodibe, who steered Mcedi Vandala’s cross into the goal.

And that goal would be decisive, as the KwaZulu-Natal team became the only ABC team in the quarter-finals.
