Baroka boss admits keeping senior players was difficult
Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has admitted that keeping some of the senior players after the club was relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship was not easy.
The club managed to retain senior players such as Ananias Gebhardt, Mafanafuthi Shozi, Mashweu Mphahlele, Kgodiso Monama, Jackson Mabokgwane just to mention a few.
The Limpopo-based outfit also unveiled its new players, kit and a new partnership with water company Powered-Up and Baroka Funerals.
Mphahlele said that he believes that the senior players who are still with the team will be able to gel well with the 12 new signings when the new season commences.
“To be honest, we had to negotiate with them. It was a lengthy negotiation, but in the end, we managed to convince them to stay with us,” told the media at the Baroka Launch on Saturday.
“At least we can push for a season, and if God willing, we will be back in the DStv Premiership.”
The chairman also reflected on the news that Bakgaga will be playing their home games at the newly named Baroka Global Stadium at its village in Lebowakgomo.
“We are humbled by the league for supporting us by approving this venue. If they didn’t tell us what to do and what we must improve, we might have been unable to meet the requirement. We are now going to make sure we enjoy playing our games here this season,” he added.
“This is also good for our supporters. Remember, people don’t have money in this type of economy we are facing, everybody is struggling, and we are coming from a serious lockdown. So to us, it is a blessing. I can also walk here not using my car. So, can stay here until is too late without worrying about traffic and travelling. This is our home, and we also sleep here.
Meanwhile, former Baroka striker Richard Mbulu is on the verge of joining Zambian giants Zesco ahead of the new season, while Nhlanhla Mgaga and Vusi Sibiya joined Stellenbosch with Bonginkosi Makume moving to Maritzburg United.
Under the guidance of coach Vincent Kobola, the club will be looking to bounce back to the top flight.
