Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker was disappointed to conceded a last minute equaliser on Swallows, a result that saw them miss out on moving to second on the DStv Premiership table.

Stellies were leading for most of the game, but Wandisile Letlabika’s stoppage time header saw Swallows grab a share of the spoils.

Barker was obviously disappointed to miss out on the three points.

“Ja, obviously disappointed in the end result,” Barker told the club’s media department after the game.

“I thought to concede with the last kick of the game, the type of goal that we conceded, obviously, you are believing and thinking that you have the three points.

“They didn’t look like really scoring, although they had a lot of the ball, and they did get a lot of crosses in we were basically dealing with it and looking threatening on transition.

“But ja, when you don’t get the second goal, and you do then have to defend for periods of time, it does open up the door for opposition to get a goal like that.

“And then the two points, obviously, have then slipped across. So ja, that in that regard is disappointing, I think it’s an area that we have to be better at, is when we are leading games to still have the ability, whether it be the bravery, courage, or the quality, to still try and maintain a form of control of the ball. The conditions obviously didn’t make it that easy either.

“But overall disappointed in not getting the maximum points after the effort that everyone put in and the preparation that went into the match.

“Fortunately, these sort of games last season, we were conceding late to lose matches, this season, we’ve conceded like to lose out on three points, but still gained a point.

“We had set ourselves at Target to get to 30 points as quickly as possible, we have one point more than the whole of last season, we still have 11 games left. So if we do continue to play like we are, we will win more games than not.

“So there’s been definite progress in the team, in terms of our performances, however, it’s just athatlittle bit of a five to ten percent we have to find to ensure that these type of games, we turn into wins and not draws.

“Because if you look at the log table, we’ve obviously now drawn nine matches, you convert one or two of those draws into wins, and then it becomes just a different ballgame. So ja, disappointed in the end result.”
