Barker Bemoans Stellies’ Poor Night In Polokwane

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker admits that he was disappointed that his side dropped points against Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

New signing Ismael Toure scored an own goal, the only goal of the match to give his side their first loss of the season after they had beaten Orlando Pirates 1-0 in their opening home game.

The Maroons are now placed ninth on the DStv Premiership table with three points in two outings.

Barker admits their showing wasn’t the best on the night and that the technical ability was also not the best on the night.

“Obviously disappointed in the result, it was definitely not one of our better performances. So just disappointed in us in terms of our technical ability this evening,” said Barker.

“I thought the first 25 minutes we dominated the game up until at least 30 minutes and then we sort of dropped our intensity, lost a bit our shape and then obviously conceded the goal, which was disappointing. And then second half I think you know we tried to get back into it.

“We tried to be positive we made a lot of attacking substitutes which made us a little bit vulnerable at the back.

“I felt maybe a bit unlucky near the end not to take the chance that was presented to us but they in fairness could have gotten the second goal.

“So it did become open at the end, but yeah unfortunately a very poor evening for the team.”
