Minnesota United striker Bongokuhle Hlongwane had a beautiful night in the United States, grabbing an assist and a goal in their 2-1 win over Houston Dynamos on Saturday.

The 22-year-old featured in his 22nd game of the season when they faced Teenage Hadebe’s Dynamos side, with both teams coming into the game with their tails up after previous wins.

The former Maritzburg United forward helped his side to a half-time lead when he provided an assist for the first goal by Franco Fragapane just before the break to take his tally to five assists in all competitions – he currently has the most assists for his club.

The South African-born forward had been struggling to score goals, though, but that changed in the 72nd minute after a lovely strike from Hlongwane completed the win for Minnesota.

He was rewarded at the end of the game with the Man of the Match award.

Hlongwane made an unexpected move to the Major League side at the beginning of last season from Maritzburg, despite being linked with Mamelodi Sundowns for quite some time.
