A Bafana Bafana star is back in training and in line to make his return to action after missing his side’s last match due to a short illness.
Al Ahly forward Percy Tau is expected to return to the field after spending a brief spell on the sidelines.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star missed Ahly’s last match, a 3-0 win over Pharco in the Egyptian Premier League on Friday.
PERCY TAU MISSED LAST MATCH DUE TO ILLNESS
Tau had caught a cold/flu in their 2-1 win over Fagrie Lakay’s Pyramids a few days before, and had missed two days of training.
However, Tau is expected to be available for selection when Ahly face Smouha in a league match at the Borg El Arab Stadium on Monday.
The Bafana star man has been one of the key players for Swiss coach Marcel Koller this season, making 20 appearances in all competitions.
He has managed to find the back of the net five times and has provided three assists so far for the Egyptian giants.
The 28-year-old South African seems to have turned the corner with the record Caf Champions League winners having endured a difficult start.
Tau appeared to be struggling after the sudden departure of compatriot, former Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane last season.
And his battles with injuries didn’t help his course as he couldn’t seem to stay fit to fight for a place in the team.
TAU WINS OVER AHLY SUPPORTERS
This season, though, ‘The Lion of Judah’ has fought his way back into favour and has even won the adoration of the hard to please Ahly supporters.
Tau has also been key for Bafana Bafana whenever he’s been fit and available for selection, with coach Hugo Broos highlighting the importance of the Ahly forward.
“In the beginning [of my Bafana contract], my first games for qualifiers for World Cup, it was Percy on 50% or maybe less with all the injuries he got,” Broos told FARPost prior to their back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Liberia last month.
“But now, he recovered. He plays all the games [for his club], and you see what that does with a player like Percy’s [quality]. So, I’m very happy with him.”
