Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi says he had no issues with Ntsako Makhubela showboating while they were trailing Orlando Pirates 1-0.
The player, currently on loan from Pirates, looked to show off his plethora of skills in the opening half after Monnapule Saleng had given the home side the lead.
It clearly entertained the crowd and even the Buccaneers reserves sitting in the stands which then boosted the confidence of his teammates.
However, many felt it was bizarre given that they were chasing the game, which Arrows eventually lost 3-1 with two second half stoppage time goals.
“Honestly I didn’t have a problem with that, I think in the first half our team was struggling in terms of being motivated and having confidence,” Vilakazi said.
“Makhubela was playing against his team so he wanted to do well and he started very scrappy, so I allowed him to do that, I don’t have a problem with players who want to do whatever they want to do.
“I’m only interested when they lose the ball, what will their reaction be, and I don’t expect them to lose the ball [after showboating], I know he was not the culprit, but he passed someone then lost the ball. But I’m okay, it boosted his confidence going forward.”
The 28-year-old failed to score or register an assist in 16 games for the Sea Robbers after joining from Arrows in August 2021 before returning this month on a six-month loan deal.
