Orlando Pirates goalkeeper coach Sjoerd Woudenberg has confirmed his exit from the club after just one season.
The Dutchman who arrived at the Buccaneers on a reported three-year deal is a UEFA A Licence holder and worked with Benni McCarthy and Jan Olde Riekerink at Cape Town City when he first arrived in the South Africa.
His time with the Citizens coincided with impressive displays with then goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh, who has since returned to the Dutch top-flight as the first-choice keeper of FC Groningen.
With Pirates during the 2021/22 season, the club struggled in the keeper department with first-choice stopper Richard Ofori injured for most of their campaign, while veteran keeper Waye Sandilands and Siyabonga Mpontshane both filled in during his absence – while the former has seemingly retired an in talks over a new role at the club.
“Unfortunately, my journey with Orlando Pirates FC has come to an end. I want to thank everyone at the club and I wish the club all the best for the future,” he wrote on social media.
Prior to his time in South Africa, he worked with Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles.
